How it works
BackWhat is a Visual Field Test?
A visual field test checks your peripheral (side) vision – the areas you can see without moving your eyes. When you look straight ahead, you can still notice things to your left, right, above, and below. This test measures how well you can detect objects in those areas.
Why does this matter?
Many eye conditions, especially glaucoma, damage peripheral vision first. You might not notice these changes in daily life because your brain fills in the gaps. By the time you notice vision loss, significant damage may have already occurred. Regular screening helps catch changes early.
How does the test work?
- 1Cover one eye – We test each eye separately for accurate results
- 2Focus on the center – A cross appears in the middle of the screen. Keep your eyes fixed on it
- 3Watch for flashes – Small dots of light will appear randomly around the screen
- 4Press when you see one – Click or press space whenever you notice a flash (even if it's faint)
- 5Don't chase the lights – Stay focused on the center. The test measures your peripheral vision, not how fast you can look around
What do the results mean?
After the test, you'll see a map showing which areas you detected lights and which you missed. Missing several points in specific patterns may indicate areas of reduced sensitivity. This is not a diagnosis – always consult an eye care professional for proper evaluation.
Viewing Distance Guide
For accurate results, sit at the right distance from your screen. Adjust the slider to match your screen size, and we'll calculate the recommended distance for different test types based on their field of view.
